Earlier this month, 1% for the Planet celebrated its 20th anniversary with its annual Global Summit event in Los Angeles. The nonprofit organization, which supports diverse environmental organizations around the world, announced it is scaling its impact by engaging more members and launching the 1% for the Planet Impact Fund at National Philanthropic Trust.
This type of approach has led to $350 million invested in environmental nonprofit solutions through the 1% for the Planet network, making supporting sustainability easy, effective, and accessible.
Neo Bites is proud to announce it has joined 1% for the Planet and committed to contributing 1% of our gross sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind and approved promotional support directly to environmental nonprofits. After becoming the first pet food company to become carbon negative earlier this year, joining 1% for the Planet expands our environmental support in a major way.
Joining 1% for the Planet isn’t about checking a box or writing a check. It’s about being an important part of an entire movement of companies who profit from resources understanding the need to protect those resources.
In January alone, 387 new members joined the 1% for the Planet community, including from 33 different U.S. states and 23 different countries around the world. The organization was founded in 2002 by two of the corporate world’s pioneering environmental stewards, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies founder Craig Matthews.
1% for the Planet’s vetted nonprofit partners are planting trees, banning plastic and protecting wildlife. They are fighting for climate policy and frontline communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. They are battling the most pressing issues of our time:
- Alternative transportation
- Climate change
- Energy and resource extraction
- Environmental education
- Environmental law and justice
- Environment and human health
- Food, land, pollution, water and wildlife
While climate change has become a political and divisive issue, the news about human-caused global warming has become even more dire. In February, a UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report noted an unavoidable increase in risks and human suffering over the next two decades.
What’s more, investors, customers, and employees are increasingly aligning with companies who operate sustainably and take steps to minimize their environmental footprint. It has never been a better time to dedicate your company’s philanthropic efforts toward groups working on environmental issues.
