Pumpkin - The Fall Superfood!!
Hey all - it’s October which means it’s time for some insight on what we all love about the fall - pumpkins!! Not only are pumpkins cute and decorative, they are also delicious and nutritious for dogs!! Read along as we dive deep into why this festive holiday fruit is an all around superstar.
Yes, pumpkins are a fruit! They are the digestion powerhouses of the fruit world. Pumpkins are high in soluble fiber, helping to get stuff “moving” when your pup is constipated. They are also high in water content which encourages smoother digestion and passing of stool. Pumpkins are also good at controlling and lowering the acidity levels in your dog’s intestines, while containing a high amount of Vitamin A and Potassium for an added bonus. Talk about a superfood!
In addition to all of the fiber and vitamins, pumpkins also contain naturally occurring prebiotics. These are beneficial in order to stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut and promote, again, healthier digestion. They also control parasites, such as tapeworms, that can sometimes enter your pup’s system. Pumpkins have a natural amino acid in their seeds that poisons parasites called cucurbitacin. This natural remedy of keeping the gut clean is beneficial for the pup’s overall health and wellness. As with introducing any new food to your pup’s diet, be sure to do it slowly and in small portions to avoid any upset tummies. Both our Superfood Topper and Original Dog Treats contain pumpkin and are very beneficial for a happy and healthy tummy. Thanks for reading!
